Bob Hope Classic Indian Ridge Course Tailor-Made For Harry

Harry Taylor, a 40-year-old qualifying school veteran who has never finished higher than fifth in a tour event, shot an 8-under-par 64 Thursday to take the second-round lead in the Bob Hope Classic at Indian Wells, Calif.

Taylor has a 14-under total of 130 and a three-shot lead over Tommy Armour and Chris Perry in the 90-hole event.

Armour shot 67 at Bermuda Dunes and Perry fired a 67 at Indian Ridge. Taylor also played at Indian Ridge.

Until Thursday, Taylor was known more by tour players for his club design and promotion work for an equipment manufacturer than for his play.

Pullman’s Kirk Triplett carded a two-day score of 138 and is tied for sixth with 15 others.

At Honolulu, Mitsuyo Hirata, a Japanese golfer making her debut in the United States, and Dawn Coe-Jones shot 5-under-par 67s to share the first-round lead in the Hawaiian Ladies Open.
