Man Stabbed While In Group Home

From Staff And Wire Reports

A man was stabbed in the back as he lay in bed Thursday night in a Spokane Valley group home for the mentally disabled.

Deputies found a knife in the back of Walter Barnes, near his right shoulder blade, when they arrived at the home, S212 Blake.

Barnes was taken to Valley Hospital and Medical Center. Sheriff’s Sgt. Bruce Mathews said the stab wound appeared serious.

A suspect in the stabbing, Billie Sue Marr, 26, was taken to the psychiatric ward of Sacred Heart Medical Center, Mathews said.

“We just want to make sure she’s safe, and the public’s safe,” Mathews said.

Barnes and Marr are both residents of the group home. Investigators were unsure what prompted the 10:15 p.m. attack.
