Social Security Statements Mailed

Compiled From Wire Services

Social Security mailed the first of 9 million personal earnings and benefits statements Thursday to Americans over age 60.

The statements, which go to older Americans who are not already receiving Social Security, provide estimates of Social Security benefits that a worker and family may be eligible to receive now and in the future.

The statement also provides a year-by-year display of the worker’s earnings so errors can be identified and corrected.

Over the next four years, Social Security will automatically mail statements to everyone turning 60. All Americans 25 and older will receive them beginning in October 1999.
