Curlew Boys Win Neb For First Time In 20 Years

Only pride was on the line Friday night, since all the teams had Northeast B District Tournament berths secured. That didn’t take away from the Panorama League tournament title games.

Curlew won it’s first boys title since 1975 with a heart-stopping overtime win over Northwest Christian after the St. George’s girls rolled past Columbia to win their sixth straight crown.

The NE-B begins Monday at SFCC with the top four from the Panorama and Bi-County.

Curlew 50, NWC 49 (OT)

The second-ranked Cougars (23-0) had to come from behind twice to win, ending the seventhranked Crusaders’ (16-8) run of three straight tournament titles.

Gary Hughes, who led Curlew with 19 points, scored the gamewinning basket with :17 left.

These teams had won the previous 10 league tournament titles, but breaking the tie was costly for the Dragons (22-1).

St. George advances without Cherea Davis, who hurt a knee.Tanna Skidmore led the Lions (16-7) with 21 points points. Peterson finished with 19.
