Harry Taylor was feeling more lucky than good after shooting a 6-under-par 66 that gave him a two-shot lead in the Bob Hope Desert Classic.

Taylor’s round set a 54-hole tournament record of 20-under 196. The old mark of 197 was shared by Tim Simpson, Mark O’Meara (both 1991) and Lennie Clements (1994).

First-round leader Kenny Perry moved back into contention with a 64.

Pullman native Kirk Triplett shot a 67 to leave him at 205.

Barb Thomas, still looking for her first victory after 11 years on the LPGA Tour, matched her career best with a 66 to open a 3-stroke lead after two rounds of the 54-hole Hawaiian Ladies Open in Honolulu.

After 36 holes, Thomas was at 10-under 134, three shots ahead of Chris Johnson, who closed with a flourish to finish the round with a 68. Annika Sorenstam, last year’s LPGA Rookie of the Year, Michele Redman, Marianne Morris and Renee Heiken followed at 5-under 139.

Tracy Hanson of Rathdrum stands at 145 after two rounds.

Paired in the same group, former Ryder Cup captains and opponents Ray Floyd and Tony Jacklin threw matching 5-under-par 66s at the field to share the first-round lead in the Senior PGA Tour’s GTE Suncoast Classic in Lutz, Fla.
