Schmick, Lamb, Garrett Put Hurt On Nighthawks

Thanks to a 53-point effort by teammates Andee Schmick, Tricia Lamb and Staci Garrett, St. John-Endicott defeated TekoaOakesdale 59-40 Saturday.

As the No. 1 Whitman County team, St. John-Endicott will face Pomeroy, the No. 1 Blue Mountain team, in the championship game at 6 p.m. on Feb. 24 at Washington State University.

Pomeroy defeated Whitman County’s Garfield-Palouse 50-42 to advance to the championship game.

The winner of the championship game will advance to state, while the other five teams battle it out for the second spot.

Whitman third-seed Tekoa-Oakesdale will play Asotin at noon Feb. 23 at WSU as both teams try to stay alive.

Waitsburg and Dayton were eliminated from the tournament.

The state tournament takes place in Spokane the first four days of March.

The SE-B boys tournament starts Monday at WSU.

St. John-End. 59, Tekoa-Oakes. 40 Schmick, Lamb and Garrett combined for the Eagles’ easy win over the Nighthawks (16-9).

After a close first half, the Eagles (21-2) outscored the Nighthawks 20-8 in the third quarter.

Pomeroy 50, Garfield-Palouse 42 Carrie Low led the Pirates (17-5), the No. 1 Blue Mountain team, with 21 points in their win over the Vikings (14-8).

The Pirates trailed by one point at the half, but outscored the Vikings 29-20 in the second half to get the win.

Asotin 73, Waitsburg 38 Tenneil Wilcox, Suzy Holland and Tara McNair had 12 points apiece as the Panthers (14-8) crushed the Cardinals (11-13).

The Panthers outscored the Cards 27-11 in the first half.

Teammate Erin Peterson added 16 points for the Irish in the win.
