Lasorda Vents Anger

Compiled From Wire Services

Tom Lasorda angrily denied that he ever turned down an offer from Baltimore owner Peter Angelos to leave the Los Angeles Dodgers and manage the Orioles.

“How can I turn down something that was never offered?” asked Lasorda, who is beginning his 19th season as Dodgers manager. “I never said any of that.”

Lasorda is quoted in a Los Angeles Times story saying, “I could have gone there; I talked to Mr. Angelos. But I didn’t (go) out of my loyalty. I wasn’t going to turn my back on Mr. (Peter) O’Malley and the Dodgers.”
