Don’t Spend Spring Break Whining About Boredom

Are you stuck in town for a boring, regular spring break? If so, check into the Spokane Parks and Recreation Department’s activities planned for April’s week-long vacation.

All teenagers are invited for a day hike, a Tandem bike ride, a canoe float, or, if you want to be out of town for most of the week, biking in the San Juan Islands.

The day hike, taking place in the Dishman Hills area, is on April 4 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Tandem Bike Ride on the Centennial Trail is on April 5, also from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The canoe float, on April 6 from 1-5:30 p.m., will cascade down the Little Spokane River.

These events, full of lush scenery, all cost $7. The biking in the San Juans is six fun-filled days and five nights (April 3-8) of exercise, scenery and friends. The price of $199 includes all equipment, transportation, food, ferry fees and supplies. The deadline for registration is March 14.

Call Rene Brizuela or Mike Aho for registration information at 625-6246.

Or, you can study: For all you juniors and sophomores planning on taking the SAT, Sylvan Learning and Technology Center is offering two free SAT workshops. Both sessions are open to students planning to take the SAT; parents can go, too.

With test registration information, a variety of study techniques and test strategies for the exam, the workshops are aimed at helping to improve your score.

The first workshop is March 2 from 6:30 p.m. in the downtown branch of the Spokane Library, Room 1A, W906 Main. The second is April 27 from 7-9 p.m. at the Hawthorne Library, E44 Hawthorne Road. Make reservations for these workshops; there’s limited seating. Call Sylvan Learning and Technology Center at (509) 467-8715. For more information on the course itself, contact Karla Kleine, course instructor, at the same number.
