High Court Upholds State’s Death Penalty

Compiled From Wire Services

The Supreme Court on Wednesday upheld the constitutionality of Alabama’s death penalty law, under which a judge may impose a death sentence despite a jury’s recommendation of life in prison without parole.

The court voted 8-1 to uphold a death sentence for an Alabama woman who was convicted of hiring a man to kill her husband so that she and her lover could share the insurance proceeds.
