Jury Says Doctor To Pay $14 Million

Compiled From Wire Services

A doctor whose controversial treatments have drawn celebrity clients including Muhammad Ali must pay $14 million for negligence in treating a woman’s breast cancer, a jury ruled.

A Hampton County jury deliberated about an hour Tuesday before deciding on damages that Dr. Rajko Medenica must pay to Gayle Taylor and her husband, Thomas.

The Taylors claimed Medenica was negligent in 1991 and 1992 in adding the drug Mitomycin-C to her standard chemotherapy drugs.

The Taylors testified they were never warned about the drug’s potential ill effects.
