Omak Teens Sentenced To Detention

Two Omak 16-year-olds will serve 5 1/2 to 8 months in detention for bombing three cars, breaking into Omak High School and starting a fire at a restaurant where they worked.

Aaron Simpson and Nicholas Johnson were sentenced last week by Superior Court Commissioner David Edwards.

Simpson and Johnson pleaded guilty last month to arson and burglary charges.

Prosecutor Rick Weber said all parties in the case felt the sentences were appropriate.

The high school juniors detonated five homemade pipe bombs last November. One went off under a driver’s education car at Omak High, another damaged two cars when it exploded outside a teacher’s house and a third blew up a mailbox.

The youths also set off two bombs in a field and placed two others under a student’s car and in a garbage can inside the high school.

Simpson and Johnson also admitted breaking into their school in September and stealing a stereo system, and said they set a fire in a trash bin outside the Burger King restaurant where they worked.
