Jazz Festival Continues At UI

The Lionel Hampton/University of Idaho Jazz Festival continues tonight and Saturday night on the main stage in the Kibbie Dome in Moscow.

Tonight’s All-Star Concert features the Festival Quartet. Its sterling lineup includes bassist Ray Brown, pianist Hank Jones, guitarist Herb Ellis and Bobby Durham on drums.

Tonight’s guests include Art Farmer, Benny Golson, Al Grey, Wallace Roney, Bill Watrous and vocalist Jon Hendricks, formerly of Lambert, Hendricks and Ross.

In addition, the Gene Harris Quartet will perform, with Harris on piano, Ron Eschete on guitar, Luther Hughes on bass and Paul Humphrey, drums.

Saturday night’s “GTE Giants of Jazz Concert” features the Lionel Hampton New York Big Band with guests Lou Rawls and Wallace Roney.

The Festival Quartet and the Ray Brown Trio, with Jeff Hamilton, drums, and Benny Green, piano, also will play.
