Parking Lot Worker Slashed After Chasing Theft Suspect

From Staff And Wire Reports

A Spokane parking lot employee was slashed with a knife after he tried to catch a man suspected of breaking into a cash box on Friday, authorities said.

The victim ended up with 10 stitches across his hand.

Kenneth Pennington, 33, of N111 Bernard, Apt. 305, was booked into jail on suspicion of first-degree robbery and a theft warrant, according to a statement by the Spokane Police Department.

The Diamond Parking employee chased Pennington after someone reported seeing a break-in at a parking lot box across from the Sheraton Hotel, N322 Spokane Falls Court, at about 9:30 a.m., said police spokesman Dick Cottam.

When he caught up, the suspect pulled out a knife and slashed the employee’s hand, said Cottam.
