Ed Jovanovski, the first player taken in last year’s NHL draft, and two other members of the Ontario Hockey League’s Windsor Spitfires were charged with two counts of sexual assault.
Windsor police issued a news release saying that Jovanovski, 18; Corey Evans, 20, and Spitfires captain Bill Bowler, 20, all surrendered to police accompanied by their lawyers.
They were arraigned in provincial court and each charged with two counts of sexual assault.
A 24-year-old Windsor woman reported to police Feb. 19 that she had been sexually assaulted by three men in her home.
Jovanovski, who was drafted by the Florida Panthers, has not signed with the NHL club.
