E. Washington At Sacramento St.

The Eagles (5-18) visit the Hornets (6-18) at 7:30 p.m., when they’ll try to avenge a Jan. 19 last-second home loss to Sacramento State.

At a glance

Eastern has three chances - all on the road - to improve upon last season’s 5-21 record. With Big Sky games against Montana and Montana State to close the season, the best opportunity appears to be tonight. And coming off Saturday’s 73-61 home win over Northern Arizona, the Eagles are playing with relative confidence. “Everybody’s understanding now that we can win some games,” said junior off-guard D’mitri Rideout, whose 7-for-14 shooting helped beat NAU. “It’s just a matter of getting down and doing the work to get to that point.” Sac State guards Michael Boyd and Damond Edwards are of the type Eastern has had trouble defending - quick, aggressive and athletic. Boyd made 8 of 11 field goals and Edwards hit 8 of 10 from the foul line in the Hornets’ 68-67 win in Cheney last month. The major difference this time is in Eagles center Melvin Lewis, averaging 17.5 points and 13.3 rebounds the last four games.

Eastern: Melvin Lewis, 11.3 ppg, 8.8 rpg; Josh Lewis, 11.3 ppg; Kevin Groves, 10.7 ppg; D’mitri Rideout, 9.8 ppg; Curtis Porter, 8.7 ppg. Sac State: Damond Edwards, 15.0 ppg; Michael Boyd, 11.6 ppg; Abie Ramirez, 10.0 ppg, 6.9 rpg; Mark Hunter, 9.6 ppg.
