Mom Seeks $30,000 In Daughter’s Death

Compiled From Wire Services

A woman whose 5-year-old daughter died after a beating by three playmates will seek $30,000 from the government, a newspaper reported.

Silje Marie Redergard died in October on a snowy playground in the central Norway town of Trondheim. Three boys - one age 5 and two age 6 - beat and kicked the girl until she was unconscious and left her to freeze to death.

Beathe Redergard decided to seek the maximum compensation for pain and suffering allowed under a law for victims of violent crime.

In the debate that followed the death, the Scandinavian cable network TV-3 dropped the children’s series “The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers.” The show, which features teenagers who battle evil monsters, was reinstated when no connection was found between it or other violent TV shows and the death.

Norway does not allow criminal charges against children under 14.
