Mary Ziegler Spokane
Service for Mary E. Ziegler, 71, was held Saturday at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home. Burial was at Fairmount Memorial Park.
Mrs. Ziegler, who died Dec. 24, was born in Spokane.
She had worked as a nurses aide.
She was a lifetime Spokane resident and attended the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the Seventh-day Adventist Church. She also volunteered with the Salvation Army for many years.
Mrs. Ziegler is survived by three daughters, Marcella Campbell and Rose Lewis, both of Spokane, and Ruth Munn of Oklahoma; a son, Chester Bates of Seattle; three brothers, Chester and Dale Smith, both of Anchorage, Alaska, and Art Smith of Spokane; a sister, Mae Moulton of Bellevue, Wash.; and eight grandchildren.
Belle (Vervair) McLaughlin Spokane
Memorial service for Belle E. (Vervair) McLaughlin, a lifetime Spokane resident, will be at 3 p.m. today at Hamblin Park Presbyterian Church.
Mrs. McLaughlin, 81, died Wednesday.
She attended Lewis and Clark High School and then worked as a sales clerk for Woolworths, J.C. Penneys, The Bon Marche and RusAn’s, before retiring in 1981.
Mrs. McLaughlin was involved in women’s bowling leagues at North Bowl and Diamond Bowl and attended Hamblin Park Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include two sons, Roy Vervair of Yakima and Richard Vervair of Spokane; a daughter, Darlene Davenny of Spokane; a brother, Harold VanHorne of Spokane; 20 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Lorraine Carroll Hayden, Idaho
Service for Lorraine M. Carroll is planned for 11 a.m. Monday at the English Funeral Chapel in Coeur d’Alene.
Mrs. Carroll, 68, died Friday. Born in Puyallup, Wash., she moved to Hayden, Idaho, in 1972 from Concord, Calif.
She worked as a bookkeeper for C&R Plumbing before retiring.
Survivors include her husband, Earl Carroll Jr., at the home; a son, Eddie Carroll of Bremerton; a daughter, Marcella Hanson of Twin Lakes, Idaho; a brother, Eugene Gosselin of Grass Valley, Calif.; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Viola Clarke Spokane
Memorial service for Viola Mae Clarke will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Fairmount Memorial Park. Cremation preceded the service.
Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Clarke, 101, died Dec. 18. Born in Barry, Ill., she moved to Spokane more than 10 years ago.
Mrs. Clarke was a homemaker and a Past Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Her husband, Josusha Clarke, died in 1987.
Survivors include a daughter, Mildred Disney of Spokane; three grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and numerous great-greatgrandchildren.
Thelma Grantham Pullman
Service for Thelma Elizabeth Grantham, 81, will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Kimball Funeral Home in Pullman.
Mrs. Grantham died Monday at Pullman Memorial Hospital.
She was born in London, Ontario.
She and her husband, Walter Grantham, moved to California and, after World War II, to Texas. In Texas she worked for Buddy Schoellkopf Products Inc., sewing rifle cases.
She retired in 1983 and moved to Pullman.
She was a member of the Women of the Moose.
Her husband died in 1976.
She is survived by two sons, Walter Grantham of Pullman and Donald Grantham of Frisco, Texas; one brother, George Jervis of London, Ontario; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Viva Newland Spokane
Graveside service for Viva A. Newland will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.
Ball and Dodd Funeral Home South is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Newland, 83, died Tuesday. Born in Minnesota, she moved to the Spokane area in 1947.
She owned a farm and worked as a waitress for the Mayfair Restaurant for more than 10 years during the 1950s.
Mrs. Newland was involved in women’s bowling leagues at the Bagdad Lanes.
Her husband, Eldon Newland, died in 1993.
Survivors include a niece.
Henry MacKay Spokane
Service for Henry R. MacKay will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Thornhill Valley Funeral Home followed by burial at the Pines Cemetery.
Mr. MacKay, 82, died Thursday. Born in Rolo, N.D., he moved to Spokane 65 years ago.
He worked as a plasterer for more than 50 years and was a member of the Plaster’s Union.
Survivors include two daughters, Christina Jane Kite and Nina Mae Hall, both of Spokane; 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Humane Society of Spokane.
Ruby Gorton Spokane
Service for Ruby G. Gorton, a homemaker, is scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday at Thornhill Valley Funeral Home. A private burial will be at the Pines Cemetery.
Mrs. Gorton, 99, died Wednesday. Born in Menomonie, Wis., she moved to Spokane 77 years ago.
Her husband, Lawrence P. Gorton, preceded her in death.
Survivors include a daughter, Elaine Kludt of Bellingham; five grandchildren and 10 greatgrandchildren.
Rose Wilson Spokane
Service for Rose F. Wilson, a lifetime Spokane resident, is scheduled for 9 a.m. Tuesday at Thornhill Valley Funeral Home. A private burial will be at Pines Cemetery.
Mrs. Wilson, a homemaker, died Wednesday. She was 77.
Survivors include her husband of 54 years, Bill Wilson Sr., at the home; a son, Bill Wilson Jr. of Spokane; a daughter, Jeanie Wilson Helean of Spokane; a brother, Ralph Scarpelli of San Jose, Calif.; three sisters, Della Travo, Mary Dellar and Edith Johnson, all of Spokane; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Mary Briggle Spokane
A private family service for Mary D. Briggle will be held at a later date. Thornhill Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Briggle, 93, died Wednesday.
Born in Heath, Idaho, she moved to Spokane 60 years ago.
She taught at Northwestern Business College in the 1930s and then worked as a bookkeeper for Dr. Spencer and Dr. Newman for many year. She also worked on the election board at Priest Lake, Idaho.
Mrs. Briggle was a member of Alpha Iota sorority and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary.
She married Lester C. Briggle in 1946. He died in 1966.
Survivors include two daughters, Jessie Clark and Betty Becker, both of Otis Orchards; eight grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and two greatgreat-grandchildren.

Doris Davis Spokane
Service for Doris M. Davis will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Hazen & Jaeger Funeral Home followed by burial at Spokane Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Davis, 63, died Dec. 27. Born in Warroad, Minn., she moved to Spokane 52 years ago.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Eagles Aerie Auxiliary and the W.I.B.C.
Survivors include a son, Allen Davis of Spokane; three sisters, Clara Leahy of Electric City, Wash., and Rosie Rubow and Sarah Coleman, both of Spokane; and two brothers, Leo Rubow of Vancouver, Wash., and Edward Rubow of Spokane.
Louise Dunn Spokane
Service for Louise M. Dunn, a lifetime Spokane resident, is planned for 10 a.m. Tuesday at Ball & Dodd Funeral Home South followed by burial at Spokane Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Dunn, 92, died Wednesday.
She graduated from Lewis and Clark High School in 1923 and worked as a telegraph operator for Western Union for 36 years. She retired in the early 1970s.
Mrs. Dunn was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church.
She married Robert Harold Dunn in 1929. He died in 1963.
Survivors include a brother, Arthur Huber of Spokane; two sisters, Marie Jerome and Leona Benson, both of Spokane; one grandson and one greatgrandson.
Mary Jane Figge Spokane
Memorial service for Mary Jane Figge, 86, was Thursday at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South.
Mrs. Figge, a 10-year Spokane resident, died Dec. 25.
She was born in Topeka, Kan.
She was a kindergarten teacher in Wichita, Kan., for 30 years and moved to Spokane in 1984.
Mrs. Figge was a member of Manito Presbyterian Church and the Jonas Babcock Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Her husband, Laurence Figge, died in 1983.
She is survived by one daughter, Jane Yerxa of Spokane; one brother, James Nation of Pampa, Texas; three grandsons and four greatgrandchildren.
