A security guard found shot to death at the apartment complex where he worked has been identified, but authorities were still working Sunday to determine what happened.
The body of Scott Long, 23, of Tacoma was found by a passer-by Friday in the parking lot of The Village at Westridge apartments in West Tacoma.
Long died of a gunshot wound to the chest, said Bob Bishop of the Pierce County medical examiner’s office.
But investigators had not determined whether Long’s death was homicide, suicide or an accident, Bishop said Saturday. A determination was likely by Tuesday or Wednesday, he said.
Long was wearing his security uniform and was on duty when he died, police said.
His body was found near his car, and his keys were in the ignition, said police Lt. Paul Wooten. The front passenger door was open.
A semiautomatic pistol - a Chinese copy of a Russian Makarov - was on the pavement nearby, Wooten said.
