A Spokane man was arrested late Saturday after leading police on a chase through residential areas of the city.
Robert S. Johnson, 21, was charged with attempting to elude police, driving without a valid license or insurance and possession of a controlled substance. Johnson was booked into Spokane County Jail.
Police stopped Johnson about 10:30 p.m. at Fourth near Thor for a traffic violation, said police spokesman Dick Cottam.
After giving officers an expired insurance card, Johnson sped away, Cottam said. Officers chased Johnson through residential areas at speeds up to 60 mph. Johnson skidded to the curb at Eighth and Ralph and ran from the car, Cottam said.
Officers found Johnson hiding in the bed of a pickup parked nearby.
Police found several rocks of crack cocaine in Johnson’s clothing when he was searched at the jail. A fully loaded semiautomatic handgun was found in the car, Cottam said.
