Vandy Hires Dowhower

Rod Dowhower, quarterbacks coach for the Cleveland Browns, says he will become Vanderbilt’s new football coach when the Browns’ season ends, The Tennessean reported Sunday.

When contacted at his home by The Associated Press, Dowhower said he didn’t want to talk about the job. He referred all questions to Vanderbilt athletic director Paul Hoolahan, who could not be reached for comment.

Retiring Colorado football coach Bill McCartney will stay at the university to work for the CU Foundation in a fundraising capacity, according to a published report.

McCartney, 54, revealed his plans in a story published by the Rocky Mountain News.
