Boeing Deliveries Hit Low Point Last Year

From Staff And Wire Reports

The Boeing Co. delivered 270 commercial aircraft to customers last year - the lowest annual total since 1987 - and near the low point, some analysts say, of the aerospace industry slump.

The total was 18 percent lower than 1993, and down from a record high of 446 in 1992. Competitor Airbus delivered 109 new jets through November and was expected to finish the year with a total of about 120.

While Airbus deliveries continue to lag, its annual orders have caught up with Boeing. Airbus says it generated 121 orders in 1994, while Boeing’s totals 115.

Boeing production this year is expected to be about as low or slightly lower than in 1994.

“We’re somewhere in the bottom right now,” said Peter Jacobs, an analyst with Ragen MacKenzie in Seattle. “Whether 1995 is going to be a little bit better or a little bit worse, we’ll have to wait and see.”
