Football Tops The Weekly Nielsens

“NFL Monday Night Football,” completing its 25th year on ABC, topped the Nielsen ratings for the second consecutive week with a 20.4 rating/36 share for its San Francisco 49ers-Minnesota Vikings game.

NBC’s telecast of college football’s Orange Bowl matchup between Nebraska and Miami placed second. A rerun of NBC’s sitcom “Seinfeld” was third. CBS newsmagazine “60 Minutes” ranked fourth.

A rerun of the ABC sitcom “Home Improvement” captured the No. 5 spot, followed by the ABC newsmagazine “Turning Point.” A rerun of the NBC doctor drama “ER” sewed up seventh place and the CBS Sunday Movie “A Father for Charlie” grabbed eighth.

The No. 9 spot went to a rerun of ABC’s “Grace Under Fire” sitcom. CBS’ doctor drama “Chicago Hope” rounded out the top 10.
