Suicide Backers Appeal Judge’s Ruling
A lawyer representing sponsors of Oregon’s assisted suicide law said Wednesday he has sent an appeal of a federal judge’s order blocking the law from taking effect.
Portland attorney Charles Hinkle said the appeal asks U.S. District Judge Michael Hogan in Eugene to reconsider his Dec. 27 decision in which he issued a preliminary injunction against the law.
Hinkle said a similar appeal would be sent to the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco asking that court to overturn the injunction and allow the law to go into effect.
