Police Warn Of Fund-Raising Scam

From Staff And Wire Reports

A group claiming to be raising money to help local law enforcement is not affiliated with the Spokane Police Department or the Spokane County Sheriff’s Department, officials said Thursday.

The solicitors call business owners and say they’re publishing an annual yearbook for police. They then ask the business owners if they’ll buy advertisements for it.

If the business owners say they will, they’re promised a sticker that declares them a supporter of Spokane police.

Advertisements for the book cost between $50 and $125, police said. Spokesman Dick Cottam said the department is not aware of the group or its publication and is not receiving money from any such fund-raiser.
