Two Children Die In Apartment Fire

Associated Press

Two children were killed by fire that swept through a four-unit apartment building early Thursday, Clarkston Fire Chief Robert Berreman said.

Firefighters arriving at the fire were told two children were in a bedroom inside one of the units.

Both were taken to St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Lewiston, Idaho, where Nicole Gosnell, 7, was pronounced dead on arrival, Berreman said.

Nathan Wilson, 10, suffered burns over 60 percent of his body and was taken to the Harborview Medical Center’s burn unit in Seattle, where he later died.

A 28-year-old babysitter escaped the flames without injury.

The fire, which destroyed two units and caused smoke and water damage in the others, apparently started near a Christmas tree, Berreman said.
