Arrest Made In Death Of Man Found On I-90

Associated Press

A man was arrested Friday in Kissimmee, Fla., in the execution-style slaying of a 45-year-old systems engineer who vanished from the Portland area on Christmas Eve, authorities said.

The body of Ian B. Bowers of Milwaukie was found dumped on an Interstate 90 bridge near Coeur d’Alene on Dec. 26. He had been shot once in the head.

Patrick W. Smith, 38, an acquaintance of Bowers, was arrested Friday by Osceola County sheriff’s deputies at his home in Kissimmee.

Two Clackamas County sheriff’s detectives were en route to Florida to question Smith, the sheriff’s office said.

Bowers was identified through fingerprints about a week after his body was found.

He had last been seen in the Portland area on Dec. 24, when he was arrested in Clackamas County on a charge of menacing.
