Heavy Snow Lures Skier To Eiffel Tower

Compiled From Wire Services

The strongest snowstorm in years blanketed Paris with enough snow to bring one sportsman to the Eiffel Tower for some skiing Friday.

Police stopped the skier, who was enticed by two inches of snow - Paris’ first of the season - surrounding the landmark. Snow fell overnight on most of France, causing avalanches and numerous traffic accidents, one of them fatal.

Traffic returned to normal in most areas Friday afternoon, though snowdrifts blocked many mountain roads and made driving hazardous.
