The Washington state Legislature convenes Monday. Legislative action scheduled this week includes:

MONDAY

54th Legislature convenes, swearing in of new members and legislative leadership.

TUESDAY

10 a.m., House Hearing Rm. A, John L. O’Brien Bldg., joint meeting of House Corrections Committee and House Law and Justice Committee public hearing on Initiative 159, Hard Time for Armed Crime, to increase penalties for crimes committed with guns.

10 a.m., House Hearing Rm. B, John L. O’Brien Bldg., House Government Operations Committee public hearing on HJM 4000, a resolution asking Congress to propose a constitutional amendment prohibiting the physical desecration of the flag.

10 a.m., Senate Hearing Rm. 4, J.A. Cherberg Bldg., Senate Health and Long Term Care Committee briefing on implementation of state health care reform law of 1993, including recommended uniform benefit package proposed by the Health Services Commission.

1:30 p.m., House Hearing Rm. D, John L. O’Brien Bldg., House Health Care Committee public hearing on HB 1028 and HB 1029, delaying and rewriting the state Health Care Reform Act of 1993.

5 p.m., Gov. Mike Lowry’s State of the State Address

WEDNESDAY

8 a.m., House Hearing Rm. B, John L. O’Brien Bldg., House Commerce & Labor Committee public hearing on HB 1030 regulating teenage work hours.

1:30 p.m., Senate Hearing Rm. 1, J.A. Cherberg Bldg., Senate Law and Justice Committee public hearing and discussion of juvenile justice reform.

THURSDAY

3:15 p.m., House Hearing Rm. C, John L. O’Brien Bldg., House Finance Committee discussion of HB 1022 and HB 1023, reducing property and business and occupation taxes.

FRIDAY
