Bushes Serenaded At Grand Ole Opry

The beer-drinkin’ songs were checked at the door Sunday when the Oak Ridge Boys and other country music stars feted George and Barbara Bush for their 50th wedding anniversary.

Ricky Skaggs, Loretta Lynn and other favorites of the former president - a vocal fan of country music - stuck with their extensive inventory of odes to family life and marriage during a special concert at the Grand Ole Opry.

“If you want to talk about family values, there it sits,” said singer Loretta Lynn, motioning to the Bushes after performing “Coal Miner’s Daughter.”

“If you knew how happy all these people have made us,” Bush told the audience. “Thank you so much for a special evening we’ll never forget.”
