Salvi Denies Abortion Clinic Killings
Wearing handcuffs, leg irons and a bulletproof vest, John C. Salvi III pleaded not guilty Monday to two counts of murder and five counts of attempted murder during a shooting rampage at two local abortion clinics.
Salvi, 22, who said nothing in court, was ordered held without bail and returned to the Norfolk County House of Correction, where he is under constant guard in a glass-walled cell. His brief court appearance was his first time in Brookline since the Dec. 30 shootings, when he allegedly killed two clinic workers and wounded five other people before fleeing to Virginia.
Prosecutor John Kivlan said Salvi planned the attacks carefully and was equipped with marked maps of Brookline and Norfolk, the Virginia city where Salvi was arrested Dec. 31 after firing shots at a third clinic there.
