‘84 Cutlass Supreme Still The Hottest Car

Compiled From Wire Services

When it comes to stealing cars, thieves go for the expansive comforts of the 1984 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme - over and over again.

For the third straight year, the 1984 Cutlass Supreme finished first in insurers’ records of auto thefts. And its maker, General Motors Corp., had 56 of the 100 most stolen cars last year.

“The cars that are most often stolen are not only very popular with consumers but readily sought after by car thieves as well,” said Bill Geen of CCC Information Services, which compiled the figures.

One thing attracting thieves to the Cutlass Supreme is that its parts don’t change much from year to year and are interchangeable with those in other models. Thieves frequently strip cars for components, which are used for repairs.

No. 2 on the most-stolen list was the Chrysler Corp.’s 1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4x4.
