Top Multi-Sport Track Athletes Due In Moscow

Although he’s not certain who’ll be here, Idaho coach Mike Keller expects some of the world’s finest athletes Feb. 10 and 11 for the USA Track and Field Multi-event Indoor Championships.

As many as a half dozen decathletes who have scored in excess of 8,000 points should compete, Keller said, including Moscow’s world champion, Dan O’Brien.

Paul Foxson, Brian Brophy and Sheldon Blockburger - all 8,000-plus decathletes - have entered, Keller said.

Heptathlete Kym Carter is expected, but Jackie Joyner-Kersee is not likely to compete.

It is a qualifier for the World Indoor championships in Barcelona, Spain, in March.

On Feb. 10, action in the Kibbie Dome will begin at 6 p.m. as the women conduct all five of their events (60-meter hurdles, high jump, shot put, long jump and 800 meters).

Men will compete in the 60-meter dash, shot put, long jump and high jump Feb. 10, with competition Feb. 11 in the 60-meter hurdles, pole vault and 1,000-meters.
