The Sasquatch (1-0 Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges, 4-9 overall) entertain the Indians (0-1, 2-11) at 8 tonight at Spokane Community College in the nightcap of a doubleheader with the women. The CCS women (1-0, 9-4) and Yakima (1-1, 10-5), who meet at 6, are ranked fourth and sixth, respectively, in the NWAACC/Horizon Air Top 8 coaches poll.

After struggling through preleague play, the Sasquatch men “have constantly improved since Christmas,” coach Sam Brasch said, and made a strong start to league play by knocking off Wenatchee 74-71 Saturday night. Brasch credits the play of guards Miles Guerra (“he’s a real stabilizing force”), Mike Ferrante and Damian Schug with getting a handle on the ball-handling problems that plagued the Sasquatch earlier. “But where we’ve really gotten better is on the backboards,” the coach said. “The kids are rebounding a lot better. We have to have that kind of effort” against Yakima. It also wouldn’t hurt for Dean Smith to continue his hot hand. He was 11 of 12 with 25 points against Wenatchee.
