Man Charged With Shooting Into Home

Police say a 20-year-old man fired several shots into a Coeur d’Alene home early Wednesday morning.

Kootenai County prosecutors charged Charles Tony Martinez, of Coeur d’Alene, with discharging a firearm into a dwelling and driving under the influence.

A woman and her daughter were sleeping in their Boyd Avenue home when at least four shots riddled the building at about 2:45 a.m., said Coeur d’Alene Police Capt. Carl Bergh.

Although no one was injured, the bullets went in through the living room window, striking the television.

Police arrested Martinez later in the morning for allegedly driving under the influence.

Witnesses described the car Martinez was driving as the same one involved in the shooting and he was charged with the firearms violation, Bergh said.

The police captain said he expects at least one additional arrest in the case and said investigators have recovered a 30-caliber rifle they believe was used in the shooting.

Martinez is being held at the Kootenai County Jail on $300,000 bail.
