Woman In Coma After Cda Wreck

A high-speed car accident that left wreckage scattered along two Coeur d’Alene blocks has also left one woman in a coma, police officials say.

Victoria VanHorn, 34, received severe head and neck injuries after being thrown from a Corvette on Jan. 7.

Idaho State Police believe Robert Allen Thomas had been drinking before he sped his sports car down Harrison Avenue at 90 mph, said Cpl. Douglas Orr.

Although charges have not yet been filed, Orr said Thomas could face felony drunken driving charges as well as manslaughter charges.

Orr believes Thomas lost control of his 1992 Corvette after flying over a rise in the road near Ninth Street.

Victoria VanHorn, her brother Rick VanHorn, and Thomas were thrown from the car.

Victoria VanHorn is not expected to regain consciousness, Orr said. Her brother received severe head wounds as well but was released from the hospital.

Thomas received back and internal injuries and remains in fair condition at Kootenai Medical Center.

Cpl. Orr said he is waiting to see the results of alcohol and drug tests done on the driver before filing charges. If Victoria VanHorn dies, Thomas could face manslaughter charges. Thomas was convicted of driving under the influence in 1984, according to Kootenai County court records. xxxx
