Callahan Passes
Charlie Callahan, who helped tell the sports story at Notre Dame for two decades before joining the Miami Dolphins as publicity director, has died. He was 79.
Callahan, sports information director for the Irish from 1946 to 1965 and publicity chief for the Dolphins from 1966 to 1984, died Thursday at Freedom Care Pavilion. He had lived in Bradenton since his retirement from the Dolphins.
He suffered from congestive heart failure.
Ray George, a star lineman on Southern Cal’s football team in the 1930s and head coach at Texas A&M; in the early 1950s, died at age 78.
