Mayor Batson makes valid point

I feel I must respond to the article concerning Millwood Mayor Jeanne Batson’s concerns about growth north of Millwood and its impact on traffic through the town (Valley Voice, Jan. 7).

I do not live in Millwood. However, I am a daily user of Argonne Road.

First, I would like to address Commissioner Steve “Foot In the Mouth” Hasson. He and his fellow commissioners were very rude in their response to Mayor Batson’s request (not demand) for a moratorium on development north of Millwood off Argonne Road.

Mr. Hasson was quoted as calling the mayor’s request “crazy” and saying “that it just doesn’t add up to a full deck.” This from a county commissioner who hasn’t carried a full string of fish since he took office. I refer to the many witless antics and statements that have been associated with Mr. Hasson.

And Commissioner Skip Chilberg doesn’t feel Argonne Road is overburdened? I think both Mr. Chilberg and Mr. Hasson should be forced to drive Argonne from 3 p.m. on and wait for three or four very, very slow freight trains to cross at Trent.

Also, while I’m on the subject, if I were Mayor Batson I would contact the Department of Transportation concerning the 18-wheelers using Argonne Road as a short-cut from north Spokane County to Interstate 90. Argonne is being torn up faster than the maintenance people can fill in the chuck holes. William R. Allen Spokane
