Diana Jacobson Stoffregen will be ordained today as a transitional deacon in the Episcopal Church. The Right Rev. Frank Jeffrey Terry, bishop of the Spokane Episcopal Diocese, will conduct the ordination at 11 a.m. at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, S5720 Perry.
The ceremony is the next step for Stoffregen to meet her goal of becoming an ordained priest. She must serve six months as a transitional deacon before she can be ordained into the priesthood.
She is currently serving as an intern at the Episcopal Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist.
Stoffregen said that because she needed a college education before she could follow God’s calling to become a priest, she enrolled at Eastern Washington University and earned a degree in general studies with an emphasis on psychology and women’s studies. She attended Gonzaga University for two years and spent a third year at the Divinity School of the Pacific in Berkeley, Calif., where she received a master of divinity degree.
