Expo Highlights

For some people, the annual Pacific Northwest Ag Expo and Farm Forum is an opportunity time to catch the latest predictions on weather and crop conditions.

For others, it’s a chance to win a GMC truck.

About 5,000 people are expected to attend the three-day event, beginning Tuesday at the Spokane Convention Center, Coliseum and various hotels.

(Adult passes are $7 for Expo, $8 for Farm Forum, $15 for both.)

Meteorologist Art Douglas predicts the weather for 1995, 9 a.m. Tuesday, Sheraton.

Jim Wiesemeyer with the Professional Farmers of America and Thomas France of the National Wildlife Federation, debate the 1995 farm bill, 9 a.m. Wednesday, Sheraton.

Purdue University’s William Field presents the first of four seminars on handicapped farmers, 1 p.m. Tuesday, Ag Trade Center.

Keith Saxton of the Agricultural Research Service, looks at wind erosion and Spokane’s air quality, 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Ag Trade Center.

Motivational speaker John Scherer addresses FFA members, 10 a.m. Wednesday, Cavanaugh’s Inn at the Park.

Farm Fest Potato Bake, 4:30-8 p.m. Wednesday, Sheraton. $4 per person with an Ag Expo ticket.

Horseshoe throwing championship, 10 a.m. Thursday, Coliseum.

Economist Des O’Rourke discusses farm subsidies and international trade, noon Thursday, Ridpath Hotel. $9.50 per person.

Becker Buick GMC gives away Sonoma truck, 3 p.m. Thursday, Ag Trade Center. Southwest Airlines also will give away eight pairs of tickets during the week.
