Pazienza Pounds Duran

Compiled From Wire Services

Vinnie Pazienza, 32, dominated 43-year-old Roberto Duran for 12 rounds to retain the International Boxing Council super middleweight title.

All the knowledge that Duran has accumulated in a pro career that is now in its 28th year could not make up for his aging reflexes. The former four-time champion from Panama simply could not match Pazienza’s fast hands and quick feet.

Pazienza, 168, a former IBF lightweight and WBA junior middleweight champion, boosted his record to 39-5 with 27 knockouts.

In an earlier bout, Hector “Macho” Camacho befuddled Todd Foster with slickness, then overwhelmed the 1988 U.S. Olympian with power in stopping him in the fifth round of their match for the vacant IBC welterweight championship.
