Students Nominated To Military Academy

Compiled By Mary Beth Bonner

Thirteen North Idaho students are among U.S. Sen. Dirk Kempthorne’s 1994 military service academy nominations. They are:

U.S. Air Force Academy (Colorado Springs): Tim Cudmore, Erik Martin and Robyn Zychek, all of Post Falls; J. Nathan Geiger, Moscow; Jacob Lacock, Ahsahka; Jason Morrison, Pinehurst; Justin Rader, Coeur d’Alene; and Kurt Williams, Lenore.

U.S. Military Academy (West Point, N.Y.): Patrick Carraher, Post Falls; and Michael Drake, Hayden Lake.

U.S. Naval Academy (Annapolis, Md.): Aaron Coburn, Sandpoint.

U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (Kings Point, N.Y.): Patrick Carraher, Tim Cudmore and Robyn Zychek, all of Post Falls; Jacob Lacock, Ahsahka; Jennifer Mills, White Bird; and Justin Rader, Coeur d’Alene.

Sabrina Meier, daughter of Harvey and Susan Meier, Spokane, served as a student page to the U.S. House of Representatives for the fall term. She was appointed by former House Speaker Tom Foley.

Meier, a junior at Lewis and Clark High School, worked in Foley’s office and attended the speaker’s daily press conferences.

She also delivered correspondence and legislative material, answered telephones in the members’ cloakrooms and forwarded their messages.

Peter Jones, son of Jerry and Peggy Jones, Colfax, Wash., has earned his Eagle Scout award.

His project was to survey and create a map of Schmuck Park and locate all 113 trees on the map. He then created a computerized database which the Colfax Park Board can use to keep track of tree care. Each tree, its type, location, and other identifying marks is in the database. He also made a 5-by-3 foot map for use in the park.

A member of Troop 595, sponsored by the Colfax United Methodist Church, Jones has earned 42 merit badges and serves as senior patrol leader.
