Workshop Series Will Connect Homes, Architecture And History

Have a fixer-upper for a house? The Corbin Art Center will offer a series on home restoration beginning Jan. 25.

Cynthia Blue-Blanton, a former professor and director of the University of Idaho’s Interior Design Department, will present classes on the history of interiors, furnishings and historic preservation technology.

“Restoration Techniques for the Historic Home” will be from 7-9 p.m. Wednesdays beginning Jan. 25. Practical information on products, research methods and restoration techniques will be taught.

“The History of Interior Design - the American Periods,” a four-week session, begins Thursday, Jan. 26.

“The History of American Houses Styles” will be presented Saturdays, Feb. 4 and 11, from 9:30 a.m. to noon.

All classes will be in the Corbin Art Center, W507 Seventh, one of Spokane’s historic homes, built in 1898. For more information, call 625-6677.

Local artist ‘Along for the Ride’

A painting by Spokane artist Joanne Nixon is included in the annual international traveling exhibition of the American Watercolor Society in New York City.

Nixon’s “Along for the Ride” is one of 40 paintings selected from 115 that will be displayed at Seattle’s Frye Museum Jan. 15 through February.

From Seattle, the art works will travel to the Tweed Museum at the University of Minnesota-Duluth. The tour ends at the Cincinnati Art Club on June 1.

Winter art classes

Beginning Monday, Jan. 23, the Corbin Art Center, W507 Seventh, will hold winter classes sponsored by the Spokane Parks & Recreation Dept.

Day and evening classes and one- and two-day workshops are available for adults and children in fine arts and crafts.

Children’s Theatre audition

Spokane Children’s Theatre will hold auditions for “Twelve Dancing Princesses” Saturday and Sunday at St. Aloysious School, E611 Mission.

Needed are 13 women and eight men to play parts from age 12 through young adult.

Tryouts will be at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday and 6 p.m. on Sunday. Auditioners are to prepare a one-minute song and bring their sheet music with them. An accompanist will be provided.
