Columbia Basin Hangs On, Defeats Ccs

The Community Colleges of Spokane came close but could not get over the hump before falling to Columbia Basin Community College 71-67 in an NWAACC men’s basketball game Wednesday night.

After trailing by as many as 11 points in the second half, Spokane pulled to within two at 63-61 with 3 minutes to go, thanks to a half-court trap and full court press. However, the Sasquatch came no closer.

Keith Mires had a pair of 3-pointers to lead the comeback and finished with 14 points to top the Sasquatch (2-2, 5-11). Chad Goldsmith added 13 points, including a pair of putbacks during the rally.

WOMEN

Columbia Basin 67, CC Spokane 47

Rachel Monolopolous hit a pair of 3-pointers with 10 minutes to go to turn back a CCS rally and lift CBC to a women’s NWAACC victory over CCS in Pasco.

The Sasquatch had pulled to within four points, but were unable to catch the Eagles.

Monolopolous’ shooting became contagious, allowing CBC to build a 20-point lead, while the Sasquatch were busy turning the ball over. They committed 17 turnovers for the game.
