Sabey Corp. Donates $5,000 To Cops Panel In/Around: Nevada-Lidgerwood

The owner of Spokane’s largest shopping center last week helped kick off a neighborhood effort to build a police substation.

The Sabey Corp., owner of NorthTown Mall, donated $5,000 to the committee working on plans to build Neva-Wood COPS, a police substation at Wellesley and Addison.

“We benefit from the community. We want to bring better things to the community,” said Laurent Poole, executive vice president of Sabey Corp.

The neighborhood committee plans to put the money toward renovating two old homes into the substation.

“Whatever you want to spend the money on, I’m sure it will be commendable,” Poole said.

An oversize check was handed over in a formal ceremony last Thursday as a way of encouraging other businesses to do the same, Poole said. The Sabey Corp. will continue to be involved in the substation, Poole said.

Business people are interested in community projects that ensure Spokane will remain a safe community.

“We want it to be a nice place to live,” he said.

Neva-Wood COPS used the mall as a place to recruit many of the 250 volunteers now affiliated with the substation. “Many of our customers come from this area, so we feel a responsibility to give something back,” Poole said.
