Sizzling Chiefs Ice Broncos Spokane Beats Swift Current For Sixth Consecutive Victory

Spokane Chiefs’ goaltender David Lemanowicz was up to the task, stopping all 26 Swift Current shots he faced to lead the Chiefs to their sixth consecutive victory, a 1-0 triumph Wednesday night in Swift Current Centennial Arena.

Randy Favaro provided Lemanowicz with all the offense he would need, neatly tucking a wrist shot past Bronco goalie Aaron MacDonald at 6:16 of the third period.

Favaro took a feed from Hugh Hamilton from along the near boards at the circle to score his second goal in as many nights, giving him four for the season, including two gamewinners.

The six-game winning streak is the longest since the Chiefs won the Memorial Cup in 1991. The victory was the third in succession on the road, following a stretch in which Spokane had dropped 12 straight.

The Chiefs were pressed late in the second period when they lost Sean Gillam to a game-misconduct penalty at 16:58. Gillam was cited for checking Chris Szysky of the Broncos from behind.

Lemanowicz, appearing in his first game since Dec. 7 and making his first start since Nov. 30, when the Chiefs beat Seattle 3-1, responded with some of his best work.

The 18-year-old from Vancouver, B.C. finished the second period with eight stops and saved his best for last, blanking the Broncos in the third period behind 12 saves. He earned his second career shutout and ran his season record to 2-4.

Swift Current fell to 22-23-3.

The Chiefs (17-28-1) travel to Red Deer Friday for the third game of a four-game trip.
