Washington Capitals Deal Former All-Stars

Associated Press

The Washington Capitals solved two problems Wednesday by trading away a pair of former NHL all-stars, defenseman Kevin Hatcher and goaltender Don Beaupre.

Hatcher, who refused to sign in part because he felt underappreciated, was sent to the Dallas Stars for defensemen Mark Tinordi and college defenseman Rick Mrozik.

Beaupre was dealt to the Ottawa Senators for a fifth-round pick in the 1995 entry draft. The move clears the way for some of the Capitals’ younger goalies, notably Rick Tabaracci and Olaf Kolzig, to gain more playing time.
