Connerless Team Wins

Compiled From Wire Services

Stars & Stripes defeated the all-women America3 yacht and sailed into second place in the America’s Cup defender trials.

Sailing without its team leader, Dennis Conner, Stars & Stripes easily crossed the finish line in light winds 1 minute, 51 seconds in front of America3.

With only one day of defender and challenger racing to go, Stars & Stripes has two victories to one for America3. Both syndicates trail Young America, which has five victories.

The skipper duties aboard Stars & Stripes were handled by Paul Cayard because Conner, a four-time America’s Cup champion, had a prior speaking engagement.
