Couple Rescue Toddler From Burning Apartment

A couple rescued a 22-month-old child from an apartment fire caused by burning incense Saturday night.

The fire began about 5:33 p.m. in a one-bedroom apartment at N6021 Mayfair, the Spokane Fire Department reported.

The incense was on top of a television and ignited a nearby wall, investigators said. Smoke and heat also damaged other areas of the apartment.

Don and Fawn Beach, who live in another apartment in the complex, knew the child was trapped in the bedroom. They broke a window, and Fawn Beach crawled in and saved the child, investigators said. The child was not injured.
