Most Back Abortions

Most Americans support the right to abortion, though many favor stricter limits on its availability, according to a CBS News poll released Sunday.

Thirty-eight percent of respondents said abortion should be generally available, 37 percent said it should be available with stricter limits, and 23 percent said it should be banned.

The poll was released on the 22nd anniversary of Roe vs. Wade, the U.S. Supreme Court decision that legalized abortion.The survey was conducted among 4,943 adults

by telephone Jan. 10-20. The margin of error is plus or minus 2 percentage points.
