Student Wounds Principal, Kills Himself

Compiled From Wire Services

A 13-year-old student armed with a shotgun wounded his principal, then killed himself Monday after a discussion over a disciplinary problem, police said.

Principal Richard Facciolo of Sacred Heart School was taken to Loma Linda University Medical Center, where he underwent surgery Monday night. His condition was not immediately available, said the Rev. Howard Lincoln, spokesman for the Roman Catholic Diocese of San Bernardino and Riverside counties.

The student was John Sirola, an eighth grader who had attended Sacred Heart for at least a year, said police Sgt. Marc Tilson.

He killed himself on an outdoor walkway near the parish church, using a 12-gauge, pistol-grip shotgun.
